Most walking tours of Lisbon show you the same streets in the same order. This one is written specifically for you — your interests, your pace, your questions. Your discovery and exploration of Lisbon begins the moment you write to us.
As architects with a passion for this city, we not only like to built, but also use culture and history as the building materials to shape your travel.

Lisbon is not a city you pass through. It is a city that passes through you — its light, its hills, its river, its cosmopolitanism embedded in local constructions. No other city in Europe carries this particular weight: the weight of having once held the entire world in its hands, and of having, slowly, beautifully, let it go.
For ten years, private clients have walked these streets with me — through the Alfama’s steep morning light, through sacristies where gilded wood tells stories richer than any museum label, through hidden courtyards where the 15th century is simply the wall you are leaning against. We walk as readers walk through the great historical novel that is the city of Lisbon: unhurried, attentive, alive to what lies beneath the surface of every tile, every arch, every carved doorway that most people photograph without stopping to understand.

Why is Lisbon unlike any other city in Europe?
How did a kingdom of one million people build a global empire spanning Brazil, West Africa, India, China, Japan, and the Azores? The spice routes, the slave trade, the Jesuits in Japan, Goa’s baroque. Understanding the Portuguese world changes how you read the whole of modernity. Or let us walk your through the Alfama, and notice the Chinese porcelain pattern on a seventeenth-century tile panel in a church nobody else stops to enter.
You just need to be curious and reach out.
This is not the right tour if you want a monument checklist and a flag to follow. It is exactly the right tour if you want to understand what you are looking at — the theology inside a tile panel, the empire encoded in a doorway, if you not only want to know who is statue on the square but also why it is there, or even want to hear a poem that explains the light on the river at 6pm. If that sounds like you, keep reading.
